DynCorp defensive over police training Print
UPI - March 19, 2007 - FALL'S CHURCH, Va.

Under increasing scrutiny for its training of police officers in Iraq and Afghanistan, DynCorp International has hired a public relations firm to represent it.

The company recruits trainers online and by word of mouth from its Falls Church, Va., headquarters, and as part of a $1.75 billion contract with the U.S. State Department, has 700 trainers in Iraq, where it helped train 198,000 Iraqis, and more than 500 in Afghanistan, where it helped train 93,000 Afghans, the Washington Post reported Monday.

However, violence is showing no sign of abating in either country, and suggestions are coming from various people in Washington the government isn't getting its money's worth, or DynCorps' isn't up to the task.

In light of the scrutiny, DynCorp hired the Qorvis Communications public relations company, the Post said. Meanwhile, DynCorp spokesman Greg Lagana said there were variables in the
war-torn countries out of the company's control.

"We don't control the political situation, the political loyalties of the people," Lagana said.
