UN Probes Fiji Mercenaries Print
United Nations, May 5 (Prensa Latina) A UN group will travel this month to Fiji to investigate security and military private companies role in hiring mercenaries, and that impact on human rights, a spokesperson announced Saturday.

A UN group will remain from May 14 to 18 in those South Pacific isles, invited by local authorities, in compliance with a program of exploratory visits to Suva, the capital, and other cities.

During the visit, the team of experts will meet with representatives of current government, intergovernmental organizations, NGO s and academic institutions.

The five-member delegation will be headed by UN reporter on the use of mercenaries, Jose Luis Gomez del Prado.

It is planned that at the end of the visit, the team present a report to Human Rights Council and to General Assembly.
